The IJGA’s season of regional events commenced on Monday, June 2, at Cary Country Club in Cary, Ill. The weather was beautiful and it proved be a great day for scoring.
Brian Colbert (Cary, IL) shot the low round of the day, carding a one-under-par 71. Colbert’s impressive round included an eagle on the par 4 third hole, as well as three birdies. Colbert’s score got him top honors in the Boys 17-18 division. Keenan Murphy (Crystal Lake, IL) placed second with a 76, while Griffin Bauman (Crystal Lake, IL) took third, shooting a 78.
James Cho (Glenview, IL) claimed first place in the Boys 14-16 flight. Cho carded a four-over-par 76 for his first place finish. Sean Humphrey (Lake Villa, IL) was two shots back with a 78, and took second place honors. Brian Miller (Barrington, IL) rounded out the top three finishers, firing a 79.
On the girls’ side, Marina Karamanis (Barrington, IL) and Tori Stock (Woodstock, IL) were low for the day, carding a pair of five-over-par 82s. Karamanis won the playoff to take top honors in the Girls 17-18 flight. Claudia Schwan (Palatine, IL) finished in third with an 84.
Katie O’Malley (Wilmette, IL) claimed a first place victory in the Girls 14-16 division, carding an 87. Katlyn Anderberg (Lake in the Hills, IL) carded an 89 for second place, while Kelly Muskat (Barrington, IL) took third.
The Illinois Junior Golf Association (IJGA) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members, conducting educational clinics and events while acting as a junior golf informational clearinghouse. One of the largest and most comprehensive junior associations in the United States, the IJGA has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 7-18) of approximately 2200.
The Association is served and governed by a Governing Board of Directors comprised of 15 volunteers including four (4) representatives of both the Illinois Section of the PGA (IPGA) and the Chicago District Golf Association (CDGA). Additional Board members are selected based on their commitment to junior golf and include parents, representatives from the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), the Illinois Coaches Association (ICA), college golf coaches and community leaders. | |
