The weather forecast predicted storms for Wednesday but those predictions did not come to fruition at Wedgewood GC in Joliet, Ill. where the IJGA held its third regional event of the season. Over 90 junior golfers competed in Wednesday’s event, in search of coveted Player of the Year points.

Robert Sloan (Lansing, IL) carded the low score of the day, shooting a one-under-par round of 71. Hot off Tuesday’s fourth place finish at the Player’s Day Open, Sloan had four birdies, including one on the eighteenth hole to go one-under for the day.

Sloan’s excellent score won him first place honors in the Junior Boys division. Brian Bullington (Frankfort, IL) came in second with a two-over-par round of 74, while Tyler Ricketts (Bourbonnais, IL) rounded out the top three with a 77.

Ryan Herter (Shorewood, IL) was low for the day in the Senior Boys division with a one-over-par 73. Patrick Clavio (Orland Park, IL) and Steve Wojcik (Tinley Park, IL) were one shot back of the leader with a pair of 74s, tying for second place. Wojick won the scorecard playoff for second place and 70 POY points.

Lauren Dawson (Flossmoor, IL) was the only girl to break 80 for the day, carding a 79. Dawson’s score earned her first place in the Junior Girls division. Brooke Kochevar (Glen Ellyn, IL) was one stroke behind Dawson, claiming a second place finish. Carly Shapiro (Lockport, IL), Stephanie Delrose (New Lenox, IL) and Kathy Sterling (Mokena, IL) were in a three-way tie for third. Shapiro won the scorecard playoff, earning herself third place and 50 POY points.

Mallory Carr (Minooka, IL) took home top honors in the Senior Girls division, carding an 87 for the day. Ashleigh Offerman (Elwood, IL) placed second, while Lindsey Springstroh (Lisle, IL) finished third.
