With wind gusts of up to 40 mph on Friday, the IJGA’s Regional event at Fresh Meadows GC in Hillside, Ill. proved to be very challenging for the junior golfers. Jeffrey Davis (Glen Ellyn, IL) carded the low round of the day with a four-over-par 76. Davis’ round was very consistent, carding a 38 on both sides, including a birdie on each nine. Nick Cassano (Melrose Park, IL) was only two strokes behind Davis with a 78, earning him a second place finish in the Senior Boys division. John O’Brien (Westchester, IL) rounded out the top three finishers in the division, just three shots out of the lead with a 79. There was also a tight competition among the Junior Boys division, as there was a three-way tie for first place. Sean Marquardt (Willowbrook, IL), Jimmy Jaskoske (Addison, IL) and Robert Smierciak (Lemont, IL) all fired 79s. Marquardt won the on-course playoff, grabbing first place and 90 POY points. Brooke Kochevar (Glen Ellyn, IL) fired the low round for the girls on Friday, fighting the strong winds to pull out an 81. Samantha Postillion (Scottsdale, AZ) finished just two strokes back of Kochevar with an 83, placing second in the Junior Girls division. Lauren Dawson (Flossmoor, IL) and Elisa Palluau (Naperville, IL) tied for third with a pair of 84s. Nicole Bronson cared the low score for the Senior Girls division, shooting an 86, while Lynn Dresilker (Wheaton, IL) placed second and Rachel mayer (Flossmoor, IL) took third.
