The sun was shining and there was a light breeze on the course Thursday at Prairie Isle Golf Club in Prairie Grove, Ill. where the IJGA held its twelfth regional event of the season. The conditions on the course were perfect for scoring.

Gordie Mitchard (Algonquin, IL) carded the low round of the day with a four-over-par 76. Mitchard finished his round with three birdies, including one on the par 5 eighteenth hole. His excellent play earned him top honors in the Junior Boys’ division. Sean Jones (Hoffman Estates, IL) and Scott Mann (Highland Park, IL) were just three strokes behind Mitchard, tying for second in the Junior Boys division.

Jacob Hurwitz (Crystal Lake, IL) took first place in the Senior Boys division with a five-over-par round of 77. The top of the leaderboard was tight, with a three-way tie for second at 78. Charles Haskins (Glenview, IL) won the scorecard playoff for second place honors with a back nine score of 37. Nick Reuter (Crystal Lake, IL) placed third, while Padraic Canavan (Chicago, IL), who started the round with an eagle, finished in fourth.

Ashley Smith (Johnsburg, IL) was low for the girls with an 89 for the day. Smith’s score, which included a birdie on the par 4 fourteenth hole, earned her first place honors in the Senior Girls division, while Jamie Condon (McHenry, IL) placed second.

Anne Egan (Lake Forest, IL) grabbed first place honors in the Junior Girls division, while Julie D’Amico (South Barrington, IL) was runner-up.

The Illinois Junior Golf Association (IJGA) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members, conducting educational clinics and events while acting as a junior golf informational clearinghouse. One of the largest and most comprehensive junior associations in the United States, the IJGA has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 7-18) of approximately 2200.

The Association is served and governed by a Governing Board of Directors comprised of 15 volunteers including four (4) representatives of both the Illinois Section of the PGA (IPGA) and the Chicago District Golf Association (CDGA). Additional Board members are selected based on their commitment to junior golf and include parents, representatives from the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), the Illinois Coaches Association (ICA), college golf coaches and community leaders.
