Contestants in today’s Parent/Junior event held at Catigny in Wheaton, IL could not ask for a better day of golf. Families were playing together, the sun was shining and temperatures actually reached into the lower 80s, something Chicagoland hasn't seen much of thus far this season.
This event featured four playing flights with 31 pairings for the Father/Son division, 9 groups for the Father/Daughter flight, 2 teams for the Mother/Son division and a single pairing for the Mother/Daughter flight.
The highly competitive Father/Son division saw 5 rounds under par, but the pairing of Scott and Sean Jones claimed first place with a two-under-par 70. Rounding out the top five in this flight were four pairings, all of whom finished with one-under-par 71s. Winning the scorecard playoff and taking second was John and Thomas O'Bryan, and placing third was the duo of Chris and Terry McCaffey.
Things heated up at the end of the day in the Father/Daughter flight, as Hannah Buck and her father Stuart tied for first place with Lynn Dreisilker and her father Leo, each duo firing even-par rounds for the day. The Bucks walked away with first place after another scorecard playoff. Rounding out the top three were Melanie and Steve Cass, who shot 77 for the day.
Taking home first place in the Mother/Son division was James Henkleman and his mother Liz, who fired a 77 for the win.
But the round of the day came from the Mother/Daughter pairing of Kerry and Samantha Postillion. The duo finished with a six-under-par round of 66. Their very impressive round consisted of six birdies and nothing over a par.
The IJGA would like to thank the Cantigny staff for having the course in top-notch condition. On July 1, Cantigny will play host to the first CEJA qualifier.
