The IJGA’s Youth Development Program kicked off their season at Klein Creek Golf Club, in Winfield, Ill. on Sunday with the first Parent/Junior event of the season. The junior golfers and their parents had a beautiful day to play, as the sun was out, the temperatures were warm and the winds were calm. The field of 90 participants (45 juniors and 45 parents) came to the course ready to have fun.
But there was also some stiff competition out on the course, as there were five scores below par in the 13-year-old division alone.  Claiming top honors among the 13-year-olds was Kevin and Steve Schnoebelen, who carded an outstanding score of five-under-par 67. The pairings of Doug and John Smart and Jack and Greg Hawes were right behind the leaders, both firing 68s.
But the low round of the day came out of the 12-year-old division, with Colton and Bill Kubovy firing an extraordinary round of six-under-par 66. Their impressive round consisted of six birdies, including back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17, coming into the homestretch.
Impressive play continued on into the 11-year-old division, as Kelli and Clyde Ono carded a great round of 68 in order to win their flight. Second-place finishers Conor and Jim Dore were also in the red, firing a one-under-par 71.
Alex and Alison Bassetto took home top honors in the 10-year-old division, carding a 77, while Jack and Michael Troy carded an impressive two-under-par 34 in the nine hole event for the 6-9 year-old division.
The IJGA would like to thank everyone who participated in this Parent/Junior event and wish them good luck throughout the season. The IJGA would also like to thank Klein Creek Golf Club for having their course in great condition for this year’s tournament.

There are still two YDP Parent/Junior events left this season, which will take place on August 16 at Silver Lake CC in Orland Park and September 20 at the Sportsman’s CC in Northbrook. Please check the website to see if there are openings and get your registrations in early to ensure you and your junior golfers a spot in the tournaments.
