Off-and-on rain showers couldn’t stop the YDP golfers on Monday, June 9 at Stony Creek Golf Club.  And one thing’s for sure, the rain didn’t stop the junior golfers from having fun on the par 65 course.

Michael Suazo (Wheaton, IL) was low for the day with an exceptional round of 76.  Suazo’s round, which included a birdie on the par 3 second hole, earned him first place in the Boys 10-11 year-old division (18 holes).  Jack Junge (Winnetka, IL) was only one stroke back of Suazo with an impressive 77.  Junge also had a birdie on the second hole.  Sebastian Dobon (Wood Dale, IL) rounded out the top three finishers with a great round of 79.

Sarah Armstrong (Flossmoor, IL) was low for the Girls 10-11 year-old (18 holes) division, firing an impressive 83 for the day.  Abbey Carlson (New Lenox, IL) was right behind Armstrong with an 85, including a birdie on the 17th hole.  Katie Kim (Glencoe, IL) placed third with an 88.

Matthew Groebe (Lemont, IL) and Will Kelly (Wheaton, IL) tied for first place in the Boys 10-11 (9 holes) division, with a pair of 40s.  And Olivia Johnson (Kankakee, IL) was low for the Girls 10-11 year-old (9 holes) division with a 58.

The Illinois Junior Golf Association (IJGA) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members, conducting educational clinics and events while acting as a junior golf informational clearinghouse.  One of the largest and most comprehensive junior associations in the United States, the IJGA has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 7-18) of approximately 2200.

The Association is served and governed by a Governing Board of Directors comprised of 15 volunteers including four (4) representatives of both the Illinois Section of the PGA (IPGA) and the Chicago District Golf Association (CDGA).  Additional Board members are selected based on their commitment to junior golf and include parents, representatives from the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), the Illinois Coaches Association (ICA), college golf coaches and community leaders.
