The IJGA held its first YDP event for 6-9 year-olds at Zigfield Troy GC in Woodridge, Ill. on Friday. Junior golfers had to battle not only the nine-hole golf course, but also the gale-force winds Mother Nature served up on Friday.

And battled they did, as there were some exceptional scores on the par 3 course. Thomas Calbi (South Barrington, IL) had the low round of the day, shooting an amazing 33. Three strokes behind the winner was Ricky Costello (Homer Glen, IL) with a 36, while Brett Seward (Aurora, IL) rounded out the top three finishers with a 37.

All three had a couple of things in common—all are 9-years-old and all had three pars on the course today.

Eight-year-old Madasyn Petersen (Rockford, IL) was low for the girls today, carding an impressive 37. Gianna Furrie grabbed second place with a 41, which included two pars, while Myah Jackson (Chicago, IL) finished in third.

The next YDP event for the 6-9 year-olds will be at the Golf Center on Wednesday, June 11.

The Illinois Junior Golf Association (IJGA) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing playing opportunities for its members, conducting educational clinics and events while acting as a junior golf informational clearinghouse. One of the largest and most comprehensive junior associations in the United States, the IJGA has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 7-18) of approximately 2200.

The Association is served and governed by a Governing Board of Directors comprised of 15 volunteers including four (4) representatives of both the Illinois Section of the PGA (IPGA) and the Chicago District Golf Association (CDGA). Additional Board members are selected based on their commitment to junior golf and include parents, representatives from the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), the Illinois Coaches Association (ICA), college golf coaches and community leaders.
